Home Remedies to Remove Uric Acid

An increased level of uric acid, or Hyperuricemia, in your body leads to several problems like gouty arthritis (deposit of uric acid in joints), kidney failure, and kidney stones. New research suggests that cardiovascular disease and hypertension can also result from high uric acid levels in the blood.

  • Causes of hyperuricemia
  • Eating excessive prunes
  • Overconsumption of alcohol
  • Malfunctioning of the kidneys
  • Obesity
  • Reduced activity of the thyroid
  • Hereditary causes
  • Genetics
  • Defective metabolic activities that cause diabetes or acidification

Some other contributing factors to high uric acid levels can be medications like diuretics, chemotherapy elements, and agents, and the like. Certain factors such as drastic dieting, fasting, and exercising could also irritate the uric acid levels briefly. If you are wondering how to remove uric acid from your body, refer to the list below.

Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a popular natural anti-toxic, blood purifier, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory substance. It helps restore the pH balance of your blood and removes the excess uric acid. To get the best results, mix a teaspoon of natural, unprocessed apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it two to three times in a day. Gradually you can increase from one teaspoon to two and continue till you see an improvement. However, ensure that you don’t consume apple cider vinegar excessively as it could interfere with the levels of potassium in the body as well as with your diuretic medication.

Vitamin C
It is beneficial to include Vitamin C rich vegetables and fruits in your diet can help you to remove uric acid from your blood.

Lemon
Even though lemon juice is acidic, it regulates the pH level of your blood by neutralizing the uric acid content. The Vitamin C contained in it further stimulates the pH level regulation. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a glass of warm water and drink it first thing in the morning. Follow this for a few weeks along with a dose of Vitamin C supplements to get relief from hyperuricemia.

Berries
The chemicals in dark berries and cherries help in reducing the level of uric acid. Along with these, the flavonoids in blue and purple berries, called anthocyanins, are anti-stiffness and anti-inflammatory and help produce relief if you are suffering from gout.
It is best to eat at least half a cup of berries every day for a few weeks. Drinking one to two cups of tart cherry juice for about four weeks will also help.

Baking soda
Baking soda works wonders by maintaining body alkalinity and increases the dissolution of uric acid into the waste expelled from the kidneys. Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water and drink this solution for about four times in a day. You can gradually increase this frequency up to every two to four-hour intervals in a day. This method, however, is not recommended over an extended period and should be especially avoided if you are a patient with high blood pressure or are above 60 years of age.

Olive oil
Butter and vegetable oil mostly get spoilt when heated. This bad oil interrupts the Vitamin E content in the body, which is useful in regulating uric acid levels. Try using olive oil when you are cooking or baking instead. The monounsaturated fats in olive oil do not change form when heated. Olive oil also behaves as an antioxidant to counter inflammation.

Water
Uric acid in your blood can be diluted and neutralized by drinking lots of water. It also stimulates the kidneys to excrete the extra uric acid from the body as urine. Drinking about eight to ten glasses of water in a day eliminates the risk of gout. Drinking five to eight glasses of water within 24 hours after a gout attack helped almost 40 percent of the people overcome gout faster than those who didn’t. Also, include fresh water-rich vegetables and fruits to help reduce uric acid levels.

Avoid purines
Animal proteins contain high amounts of purines in it which contain nitrogen that converts into uric acid. To avoid this, it is recommended that you avoid meat. Replace meat and beer with healthier solutions like pulses, asparagus, beans, yeast, and mushrooms.

Fiber
Include high-fiber foods like apples, oranges, pears, strawberries and whole grains should into in your diet. Along with these, eat starchy carbohydrates such as bananas, whole grain pasta, quinoa, potatoes, oats, tapioca, and rice. Green papaya tea is also a great remedy for high uric acid levels. It maintains the alkalinity of your blood and also functions as an anti-inflammatory.

Dairy
Skimmed or low-fat milk has orotic acid that eliminates uric acid through the kidneys and also decreases its reabsorption into the blood. Drink about one to five cups of skimmed milk every day. Low-fat yogurt is also effective in removing uric acid. Along with the remedies mentioned above, make sure you consult a doctor to get professional treatment to reduce the levels of uric acid in your blood.
