Many people time and again experience the problem of swelling in their hands while exercising. Hand swelling is caused when blood vessels in the body respond to the improved energy strains of your muscles at the time of exercise. The hands become cooler again when blood flow to the hands is reduced. Swollen finger pain occurs due to rheumatoid arthritis and even osteoarthritis, and that mainly distresses the joints of the fingers.

The main cause of finger pain is often an injury or a disease. This affects the structures in the fingers such as the muscles, joints, bones, connective tissue and blood vessels. Joint inflammation causes pain in the joints, which is referred to as arthritis. Joint pain can occur even in the finger bone and is at times accompanied by swollen fingers or redness. The other causes of pain in the fingers can be bruises, fracture of the bone and dislocation. In very rare cases it is found that swollen finger pain occurs due to swelling of the structures in the fingers and it results in tingling, pain, and numbness.

Reasons for swollen fingers
There are many reasons why swelling occurs in fingers, and some of these are harmless. In some cases of puffiness of fingers, pain arises, and there can be severe underlying complications. Eating food with lots of salt in it or even fried items can be one of the causes of swollen fingers. It is very important that you maintain the salt –to water consistency in the body as intake of salt can retain more water in the body and result in swelling of the fingers. Swollen finger pain is very annoying, and it is difficult at times to carry out simple tasks at home. Mild swelling of the finger lasts for a day or two, but if you cut back on the quantity of the salt and the swelling persists, it is important that you consult a doctor.

Lymphedema
The other reason why fingers swell is due to a limb-swelling disease called Lymphedema, and that occurs as a result of the accumulation of lymph fluid. The lymph fluid is known to carry bacteria, virus and waste out from the body and if that does not drain, it can cause problems. There are possibilities that not only the fingers and hands swell, but even the legs and the arms swell due to the accumulation of lymph fluid. The skin becomes thicker, and it feels tighter and causes pain.

Simple signs to identify for broken finger
The first sign of a broken finger is that the finger would be a little pale in color and can appear a little bent due to the swelling. The finger would be sensitive to temperature, and most of the times it is just a mild sprain. Due to the swelling, it becomes difficult for the finger to have proper movement and the finger cannot be extended or bent because of the continued swelling of the finger. At times, swollen finger pain occurs due to fractured bones or torn ligaments. The pain subsides when the finger is at rest. It is necessary that proper care is taken and you must check if the finger can be bent as it used to be before, as the damage caused can be serious at times.

Cause of swollen finger pain
Swollen finger pain causes a lot of discomforts and there are many conditions associated with it that cause the pain and make it difficult to use the fingers. Fingers swell even due to an insect bite. They also swell due to hormonal changes in the body or due to exposure to extreme temperature.

It occurs as a result of underlying problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, fungal infection around the nail, septic arthritis, ganglion cyst, bursitis, and even cellulitis. The symptoms that are experienced by an individual due to swollen finger pain include discomfort, fatigue, tingling sensation caused due to nerve compression, swollen joints, stiffness, redness and reduced movement.

Simple home remedies to treat swollen finger pain
Hydrotherapy is an excellent method that can be used to treat swollen finger pain. 2 bowls of water is required in which one bowl has cold water and the other has warm water. The fingers must be soaked in warm water for about 3-4 minutes and then in cold water for 1 minute. The procedure should be continued by putting the fingers alternately in warm and cold water for about 15-20 times.

The best and simple method to treat swollen finger pain is by massaging the fingers and hand with some warm olive oil or mustard oil. You can also perform simple hand exercises that would improve the blood circulation and reduce the swelling caused due to fluid retention. The fingers should be closed into a fist and should be held like that for a minute, and then slowly opened. It is a simple exercise and can be done many times in a day.
