What is ovarian cancer?
Ovarian cancer forms in the ovaries or at the distal end of the fallopian tubes. There are different types of ovarian cancers based on which cell is responsible for the development of the tumor.

  • Epithelial Cell Ovarian Cancer: This is caused when the tumor is formed from the cells that cover the outer surface of the ovaries. This is the most common type of ovarian cancer.
  • Germ Cell Ovarian cancer: This cancer occurs when the tumors start from the cells responsible for the production of eggs.
  • Stromal ovarian cancer: Stromal ovarian cancer is caused by the structural tissue cells that hold the ovary together.

Germ cell and stromal ovarian cancer are rare types of ovarian cancer.

Dairy products such as yogurt, cottage cheese, and milk are also good for those suffering from ovarian cancer.

Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are also must-have foods.

Certain foods can do more harm than good when it comes to fighting ovarian cancer. These include the following.

  • Processed foods

It is important to check with your healthcare provider before making any massive changes to your meals. Healthcare practitioners can also provide healthy foods that can help alleviate the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

Treating ovarian cancer
Common treatments for ovarian cancer are surgery and chemotherapy. But, in some cases, doctors also prescribe medication to manage its symptoms. One of the most common medications for ovarian cancer is Rubraca.

Rubraca is an FDA-approved medication that is used to treat cancer in the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and peritoneum. Common side effects include abdominal pain, poor appetite, rashes, shortness of breath, depression, and anemia.

Aside from medication, studies have shown that CAR T-cell therapy can also be used to treat ovarian cancer. In this method, the T-cells of the patient are modified to attack cancerous cells in the body.

Note that treatments can differ based on the severity of the condition as well as what works for the individual.
