Allergy coughs occur only in the presence of allergens.

Allergy coughs are usually accompanied by accompanied by sinus and middle ear infections. The swelling of the nasal passages makes the sinuses inflamed and highly sensitive. Sinusitis is a common result of leaving these coughs untreated.

If you are suffering from an allergy cough, you must keep in mind that there are two types of allergy cough treatment, which are needed — Symptomatic treatment and anti-allergy symptoms.

Symptomatic allergy cough treatment involves just the treatment of the symptoms, such as a runny nose or a wet cough or a dry cough. Anti-allergy cough treatments are treatments where the allergen is found and then it is treated with a vaccine to prevent complications from further exposure.

Home remedies for allergy cough treatment
There are a few home allergy cough treatments that can eliminate allergy coughs completely. These are as follows:

  • Honey
Honey works better than many drugs that contain cough-suppressants. Honey builds immunity when taken regularly and hence fights with the allergens that cause coughs. Two tablespoons of honey with warm water and a few drops of lemon will do wonders for your cough.

Peppermint leaves have lots of healing properties. The menthol in peppermint soothes an irritated throat and behaves as a decongestant. It also contains a type of flavonoid called luteolin-7-O-rutinoside which brings huge relief and breaks down mucus. Peppermint benefits can be acquired in two ways. Drinking peppermint tea can bring down the irritant reaction of the allergen and inhaling vapors of peppermint in a steam bath can bring relief and can inhibit the secretion of anti-inflammatory enzymes.
  • Thyme
Thyme is perfect for respiratory illness. Thyme extract is said to have been used for the cure of short term bronchitis. Its leaves contain a compound called flavonoids that relax throat muscles and lessen inflammation.
  • Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is an immediate remedy for the majority of health conditions. Its ability to decrease mucous production and clean the lymphatic system makes it effective for allergies.
  • Probiotics
Probiotics provide a balance that supports your body’s immune system and help fight allergies. Probiotics can be included in the everyday diet and are found in certain forms of dairy.
  • Pineapple
Pineapple is lesser known when it comes to home remedies. Most people are not aware that pineapples are a great natural remedy for coughs. Pineapples contain a compound called Bromelain that can suppress coughs and loosen the mucus. It is also believed to cure sinusitis and relieve allergies.
  • Salt and water gargle
This is the most common remedy people know. Gargling salt and water can soothe your scratchy throat. Half tablespoon of salt mixed with eight ounces of water can be the perfect remedy for coughs.

So, if you are suffering from an allergy cough, consider the allergy cough treatments that are mentioned above. However, if you do not feel better or if your cough worsens, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
